Peer-to-peer rental marketplace for local communities

Overview

Lendit is a UK peer-to-peer rental platform on a mission to turn rarely-used tools and equipment into accessible, income-generating assets inside local communities. 7Code built the product end to end: a brand and design system created from the founders' initial inspiration, a web application covering the full rental lifecycle, an iOS and Android app for on-the-go discovery and messaging, and a backend powering listings, search, payments, and KYC, engineered to capture the behavioural data a community-led launch depends on.

The challenge

A neighbourhood marketplace needs a brand, a payments rail strangers can trust, and one product across three surfaces.

Lendit set out to build a trusted marketplace where neighbours rent everyday items to each other. That meant a recognisable brand built from scratch, a payment flow safe enough for two strangers to transact through, and a coherent experience across web, mobile, and the services behind them, all engineered to support a community-led launch.

  • Creating a recognisable, distinctive brand image from initial inspiration sources
  • A frictionless but secure payment flow between lenders and borrowers
  • One consistent experience across web, mobile, and AI-powered services
  • A backend capable of capturing extensive user-behaviour data from day one
Our approach

One design system, three surfaces, and a verified payments rail underneath.

We ran the full product lifecycle: brand and design system first, then a Next.js web application, an iOS and Android app, and a Nest.js backend on AWS. Stripe moves money between lenders and borrowers, Ondato verifies identity so both sides know who they are transacting with, and AI services support discovery and listing. Ten modules shipped across the rental lifecycle, from Explore to Payment.

01
Brand and design system
A recognisable brand built from the founders' initial inspiration, extended into one comprehensive design system shared by web and mobile.
02
Web and mobile as one product
A web app for browsing, listing, and managing rentals, plus an iOS and Android app for on-the-go discovery and messaging, same flows, same language.
03
Verified, secure payments rail
Stripe payments between lenders and borrowers with Ondato KYC, so identity checks and money movement sit inside the same trusted flow.
04
A backend built for behavioural data
Nest.js services on AWS powering listings, search, payments, and KYC, capturing the extensive behavioural data Lendit needs for community insight.
